Learn and Enjoy Whale Watching with Mackay Whale Watching
The resident killer whales from the north coast of British Columbia usually enter our waters in
mid to late June. Once they arrive we offer daily tours until mid October. These educational and
entertaining tours depart from Port McNeill; they are four to five hours in duration with lunch
included. You will learn the latest information about killer whales and will be able to listen to
their vocalizations with our underwater hydrophone!
The east coast of northern Vancouver Island is one of the best places in the world to reliably see
killer whales, particularly around areas such as Robson Bight, Johnstone Straight and Blackfish Sound.
Although the chances of observing killer whales is extremely good, we understandably can't guarantee
sightings. Other wildlife to be seen include Minke Whales, Pacific White-sided Dolphins, Dal Porpoises,
Harbour Seals, Stellar Sea Lions, many species of seabirds and occasionally Humpback and Grey Whales.
